Surely the most important of the classic Ferraris is the 250 series. Over its decade of production, the 250 series gave us some of the most recognizable models of the marque’s history, including the GTO, the Testa Rossa, the Lusso and the original California Spyder.
This year Ferrari is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the series that was built around Giachino Colombo’s enduring 3.0-liter V12. To mark the occasion, the Ferrari Museum in Maranello is displaying two unique and important 250s from its historical archives. One is the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta that Stirling Moss drove to victory at four races in 1961. The second is the so-called Breadvan, which was commissioned by Count Volpi di Musurata and developed by Piero Drogo and Giotto Bizzarrini. It was one of the original shooting brakes and provided the inspiration for the new FF.
The two are already on display in the museum for any visitor to see, but if your travel plans aren’t sending you to Maranello anytime soon, you can still check them out in the photo gallery above and the press release below.

Ya se ha dicho, como consumidores tenemos el poder de decidir a qué empresa beneficiar, pero para encausar bien ese poder y elegir con prudencia necesitamos información. La Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) abrió el Portal del Consumidor a finales de marzo. En él, hay interesantes artículos sobre publicidad engañosa y pistas para aprender a consumir y dónde quejarse. También tiene una sección que se llama “Las 20 +”, sección que muestra cuáles son las empresas que acumulan más quejas por parte de los consumidores. La pregunta de los 64 mil, ¿cuáles son las cinco empresas con más quejas acumuladas? Creo que todos tenemos una idea muy aproximada de cuáles son porque abundan los reclamos y las críticas hacia ellas. Aquí te las presento:
Comisión Federal de Electricidad
¿Y cuál más si no? Claro que en eso de quejas la CFE se lleva oro con creces.
Número de quejas recibidas durante 2011: 14 mil 174. Porcentaje de conciliación: 80 por ciento. Concilia en línea: sí.
Motivos de las quejas:
- Realiza cobros no pactados originalmente.
- Se niega a reembolsar el importe de los errores en el cobro.
- Se comenten errores en la facturación.
Telcel
Pero si alguien merecía la plata era, sin duda, Telcel, si me dieran un peso cada vez que leo en Twitter que Telcel apesta, seguro saco, de menos, para una buena cena.
Número de quejas recibidas durante 2011: 5 mil 61. Porcentaje de conciliación: 94 por ciento. Concilia en línea: sí.
Motivos de las quejas:
- Realiza cobros que no se apegan a lo pactado y se niega a reembolsar el importe de estos errores en el cobro.
- Se niega a hacer válida la garantía de un bien o servicio aún estando vigente el plazo pactado.
- Se niega a cancelar el contrato de un bien o servicio cuando el consumidor lo solicita y aún cuando éste está dispuesto a pagar la penalización por el acto.
Dish
Para mí fue la “revelación”, será que no conozco el servicio ni tengo a personas cercanas que lo hayan contratado, pero me da gusto, porque se ve que se tienen que aplicar bastante.
Número de quejas recibidas durante 2011: 4 mil 943. Porcentaje de conciliación: 86 por ciento. Concilia en línea: no.
Motivos de las quejas:
- Realiza cobros que no se apegan a lo pactado y se niega a reembolsar el importe de estos errores en el cobro.
- Se niega a cancelar el contrato de un bien o servicio cuando el consumidor lo solicita y aún cuando éste está dispuesto a pagar la penalización por el acto.

Iusacell
Mi hermana tiene Iusacell, dice que el servicio se muere a los dos pasos que sale de la ciudad. Yo no sé, ni me consta. No está tan mal como Telcel, pero se ve que tiene sus puntos flacos.
Número de quejas recibidas durante 2011: 2 mil 719. Porcentaje de conciliación: 90 por ciento. Concilia en línea: no.
Motivos de las quejas:
- Se niega a cancelar el contrato de un bien o servicio cuando el consumidor lo solicita y aún cuando éste está dispuesto a pagar la penalización por el acto.

Telmex
¡Ay, Telmex! No soy yo, eres tú. Definitivamente era previsible que estuviera Telmex en el “Top 5”, ¿a poco a ti no te ha hecho pasar un mal rato?
Número de quejas recibidas durante 2011: 2 mil 491. Porcentaje de conciliación: 91 por ciento. Concilia en línea: no.
Motivos de las quejas:
- Realiza cobros que no se apegan a lo pactado y se niega a reembolsar el importe de estos errores en el cobro.
- Incumple con la entrega de productos o servicios, aún cuando el consumidor ha cumplido con lo pactado.
- Se niega a cancelar el contrato de un bien o servicio cuando el consumidor lo solicita y aún cuando éste está dispuesto a pagar la penalización por el acto.
Estas son las cinco empresas con más quejas, aunque se ve que están trabajando duro en eso de la conciliación. De las presentadas, la que tuvo menos porcentaje de conciliación fue “casualmente” la que tiene más quejas, y es que ¿quién se puede conciliar con CFE? Se supone que el propósito de esta lista es, además de proporcionar información al consumidor, incentivar a las empresas a mejorar su desempeño, es decir, que les de pena estar en esta lista y se esfuercen por mejorar el servicio. Se supone que la información se actualizará cada tres meses, pero yo creo que más de una se quedará en su vergonzoso puesto por mucho tiempo más.
Si quieres conocer el resto de empresas puedes ingresar al portal. A mí me ha llamado la atención más de un artículo. Además recuerda que el titular de Profeco, Bernardo Altamirano, pidió que pusiéramos a la dependencia contra las cuerdas, así que hay que presionar y ponerlos a trabajar.

The arcade as we know it may not exist anymore in the US, but there was a time when they were big enough to garner their own TV shows. The Awl has dug up the intro to “Battle of the Video Games,” a spectacular taste of the culture of 1983 — that’s nearly thirty years ago if you’ve conveniently let that slip from your mind. The one-time special features Heather Locklear, Happy Days’ Anson Williams, Lou Ferrigno, Scott Baio, and other ’80s — erm — stars. The contest pits the celebrities, split into two teams, against each other in three rounds: Ms. Pac-Man, BugerTime, and Frogger. A little while ago I posed the question: Is Android 5.0 Jelly Bean too much, too soon? The reaction from the net was lively, with most people falling into one of two camps. First, those who want the latest and best, and they want it now! And those who say that, as long as the phone works, most people don’t care about the version of Android on their device. Well, now the app developers have spoken - and perhaps they matter the most!
There are, of course, three main groups in the Android ecosystem: There is Google (and the handset manufactures), there are the consumers, and there are the app developers. Android is a great mobile OS, but where would it be without Angry Birds or a Facebook app?
A few days ago, San Francisco hosted the AnDevCon III technical conference for software developers building Android apps. There were lots of top people there from Google, Barnes & Noble, HTC and so on. And, according to InfoWorld.com, developers at the conference aren’t in a rush to see Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, but rather they are concentrating on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The problems that Android app developers face were summed up nicely by David Mathisen, of Allegiance Software: “I want to make sure that everybody can use our app that has an Android phone.” And that is the main issue. No developer in their right mind will release an app that only works on ICS. With a little under 5% of the Android population using Android 4.0, app developers need to make sure their apps are compatible with Android 2.2 Froyo and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Talk of Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is at best theoretical and even when Google releases the software (and the source code), it will be six months or even a year before there is a significant number of real world users.
This “fragmentation” can be a pain for app developers who need to spend extra time (and money) making sure apps work across the board. “Sometimes, you need to implement different tools to actually make the application work in different versions,” said Teresa Jimenez Arreola, of France Telecom R&D.
In considering the possible impact of Jelly Bean on the Android ecosystem, William van de Lagemaat, a “new technology” consultant, made the excellent point that the Android 2.x series could become Android’s IE 6. He is drawing a parallel with the difficulty web developers have in ensuring that web pages are viewable across the myriad of different web browsers that exist today, in particular Internet Explorer 6 has stuck around much longer that it should and has been the bane of web developer’s (and Microsoft’s) life.
If he is right then this is bad news for app developers and consumers alike. If Android 2.2 and Android 2.3 stick around for another two or even three years, and between them manage to count for anything over 25% of Android users, then everyone has a problem. App and game innovation will be limited as developers will want to use the most popular version to increase revenues. Everything will need to remain Android 2.x compatible which will leave ICS and Jelly Bean without value add apps.
What can Google do about this?
I am tempted to say that Google already missed its chance to get this right, but I think that it can learn something from Microsoft. Windows XP was a runaway success, so successful in fact that even eights years after it was originally released you could buy a new PC with XP pre-installed on it. The reason for its longevity was Windows Vista. It was a disaster and it didn’t run well on older computers. The answer was Windows 7 which, from the get-go, was slimmer and faster, plus Microsoft released Windows 7 Starter edition which was even slimmer for netbooks and PCs will less resources.
One of the reasons that handset manufactures can’t put ICS on some devices is that a) they don’t have enough RAM, b) they don’t have enough flash memory to hold the OS. Google should be working to make an ICS Lite which fits onto older devices. Failure to do this will result in years of pain as the Android 2.x series dies a slow but lingering death.
